So after reading many of the reviews we tried the cream of crab soup, which was very good but also very rich. The waiter takes us into trying the Maryland crab as well which also was good. However the best was mixing the two together, a little trick we learned at a place on Solomon's Island. The filet was awesome and so was the stuffed grouper. Also Don is great, best server I've had in a long time, super friendly and full of great suggestions. Overall great place!

After living in Glen Burnie for over 3 years (sad for me I know) I'll admit that I had no idea that this place existed. I'd despite spent many a happy moment at the corner across the street at Bruster's Ice Cream, but had never ventured around the corner to this establishment. My fiancé and I were invited to the Sunset Restaurant for dinner by a mutual friend and I'm very glad for it. Upon first walking in, I was a little put off by the decor. Clearly it was meant to be "white linen" fancy, and likely was back in the early 90's but not now. The foyer had the type of furniture that you'd find in a private living room (compete with the awkwardly soft and low-seated couch). But - don't let that defer you! It got better. First of all, the service was amazing! Our server April was friendly, polite, a good conversationalist, and very knowledgeable about the menu. She was quick to refill our drinks and kept checking on us to be sure that we had all we needed. She even had some great menu recommendations and spoke with clear personal knowledge of the ingredients and flavor. So - what should you order? I'd start with the house special, the Cream of Crab soup (delicious), and then dive into seafood. I'd highly recommend the baked stuffed shrimp and the crab cakes as both were well seasons and well cooked. For dessert, make sure to ask for the strawberry shortcake (complete with homemade whip-cream)! Worth a visit and I'll definitely make this place one of my regular nights out!

New York Strip is awesome! And great customer service. It's a classic in Glen Burnie. They cut the meat straight from the cows in the kitchen. Portion sizes are super huge. And the strawberry shortcake is a must!

If I could give it 0 stars, I would. We were there with a large party, called ahead with reservations, and we sat. And sat. And sat. For an hour they told us they were setting up the table. An hour. We left. Never even got to try the soup...

We come here often we always enjoy it. My favorite is the cream of crab soup. The foods good service is good

This used to be my favorite crab cake and cream of crab soup place until I discovered Pappa's. It is still better than average, but I don't think the quality is as good as it was 5-10 years ago. I love going around Christmas time because it is so nicely decorated and it has become a tradition to go around the holidays for the family.

After writing two poor reviews, I wanted to write a good one. Here is my first good(great) review, and even IT has its' minuses. I've been here roughly 20 times. Sunset is a gem set in the middle of nowhere, Glen Burnie. Not being from here, everyone I have spoken to says it's as much of an institution in a 50 mile radius as the NSA(hope they aren't watching). Let me start off with the negatives, the sausage and green pepper sandwich is horrible. NEVER get it. Also never get the escargot(the original reason I went here), they serve it with what I will swear to my dying day as a beef sauce. It's mortifying beyond words. Also never get the french dip. I know it's hard to screw up a french dip, but theirs just tastes a little funky. Now the two dishes that I will ALWAYS come back for: 1. The turkey club sandwich is tremendous. Sure you can get a club anywhere in the western world, and sure they all taste roughly the same, but not here. Their club actually has REAL turkey, not pre-packaged, pre-siced, compressed lunch meat. It also has plenty(more than your average club, making it superior) of REAL, THICK, TASTY BACON. It comes with chips and a pickle. Don't fret that no fries are included, you won't need them unless you're less fortunate and haven't eaten in days, the sandwich is substantial. I'm from the midwest where a club comes with turkey and ham, getting used to this east coast thing with just one meat hasn't been easy for me, but the way to set that shortcoming right it to get the Sunset turkey club, it's awesome! Total damage is $7.00 if memory serves. 2. The prime rib. There is a stunning lack of consistency when it comes to this fine pleasure of the flesh. On average, it's an incredible steal for the price. The chunk of meat they bring out to you is roughly the size of an aircraft carrier. It's simply enormous! After bread and salad you WILL be going home with leftovers(don't forget your au jus). On a good night, and it has been awhile so I don't even know if the same gentleman cooks there, but there has been twice, when it was literally the best steak I have EVER eaten. Let me preface that by saying I am a carnivore. I eat steaks for breakfast and between steak snacks. When I say EVER, that's something! It was mouthwatering beyond words that I, being an average human, am able to muster. I think the cooks name was Ron, or Roy, or Gary(see the theme here? I think it has an R in it). In complete honesty, I would expect to pay double to triple what they charge at a high end steakhouse for the two absolutely stunning experiences I have had with their prime rib. I guess the consistency of the dish doesn't allow them to up the price point. Total damage is $24 I believe. If you're ever in the area, try it out, especially the two winners above!
(5)chris R.
Went here because it was recommended to me. Never again will I listen to this friend. Our meal took almost 45 minutes to come to us, my prime rib was supposed to be medium and came out hockey puck. My dates chicken Parmesan tasted like burnt cheese and the chicken tough as leather. Never once were we asked if anyting was well or could be made better. Never, EVER going back to this dump.

Still one of my favorite places for cream of crab soup and a shrimp salad sandwich.

Sunset has long been our restaurant of choice for special occasions. Not that you have to have a special occasion to visit. The menu is broad and has a little bit of everything - sandwiches to full seafood or steak meals. A large portion is served for pretty much the entire menu. At least all that we have tried. They accept reservations and they are recommended at peak times and holidays (like Valentine's Day or the like). But - you can get seated most times without a reservation. Dress can be casual - we've gone in wearing shorts and sandals in the summer and haven't felt out of place. I have found the older lady hostesses to sometimes be a bit snippy. But generally the staff is nice. We have also had one or two slightly mediocre service instances. Not horrible. It may have been the wait person was having a bad day. But - it's not significant enough to override the fabulous food. This place has THE BEST cream of crab soup. They serve it with a tiny decanter of sherry. If you go later in the evening the soup is thicker - almost like crab dip. Thin it out a bit with the sherry. It's just amazing and is our favorite! We have had excellent steaks, crab cakes, crab melts, crab meat stuffing (see a theme here). The meal starts with an appetizer of Port Wine Cheese, Cream Cheese & Crackers and a relish tray. These are listed as $5 ea. on the menu - but they've always been included free with your meal. Soda - not refillable. Iced tea, however, is. Salads are good -the Roquefort dressing is phenomenal. The chunks are huge. Usually by the time we have shared the appetizer plates, had salad and a bowl of crab soup we are full. So, a good bit of our meal goes home with us. Not necessarily a bad thing. Dessert - I think the only dessert we have tried (and, again - this usually goes home with us) - the strawberry shortcake. Another thing this place is known for. Delicious and very large. Definitely something to share. Overall - this is one of our favorite restaurants. I just wish we lived closer. We don't get there as often as we used to.

The food at this place was great! The cream of crab soup was probably the best soup I've ever had. My steak was done just right. The place smells like old people though..like maybe bingo night at the elks club. Wasn't really digging that. But the service and food were great.
(4)Latise B.
I can't believe no one has rated this spot yet! This is a somewhat upscale restaurant nestled in Glen Burnie near Bill Bateman's. The food here is really good, although a bit over priced for the portion size (it seems thats normal for restaurants in this price range). The cream of crab soup is to die for. Good wine selection. I don't go here often (pricey) and I don't live close, but I enjoy my meal every time. Don't think you have to be all dressed up to eat here. There are people who come in with jacket's and stuff, and its also a popular spot for kids heading out to prom, but you'll fit in just fine in jeans and a t-shirt. Don't forget to try the cream of crab soup if you patronize this establishment.

My husband and I had dinner here after he picked me up from BWI. It was a cold night and I was hungry after flying across the country. The cream of crab soup was perfect, filling and warm on a cold night. I followed that with a crab cake sandwich, which was okay. I have high standards though, having had the ultimate crab cake in Chincoteague a few years back. My husband had a juicy steak sandwich which he was very pleased with. At the recommendation of other yelpers, we took the strawberry shortcake to go. It is phenomenal. You can taste how fresh the whipped cream is. The service is also great. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. We'll be back to try dinner sometime.

Wow. This place is past it's prime- needs Gordon Ramsey to completely revamp it. The clams had lots of dirt in them- the bar-b-que is obviously bottled. Despite the menu saying they use frech veggies, the waiter confessed that ALL the vegetables are cooked from frozen!!! what? not the quality I expect at these prices. Not the quality I expect in 2012- more like an average restaurant circa 1983. On the other hand, the waiter was a nice guy! That's the only reason they get a star at all- it's a pity star.
(1)K S.
The food, decor, service... all in need of a serious makeover. Where is Kitchen Nightmares when you need them.
(1)Keeb M.
Overpriced average food, shabby decor and inattentive service. This place gets by on it's history and memories of what used to be a good restaurant. Now it is just a place that it takes 2.5 hours to get in and out of while you wait for service and eat average food.
(1)Steve W.
Been to the Sunset many times and was just there last night. It is a real throw back to times 40 years ago. The decor, the menu, the good-old-girl with an attitude waitresses. The dining rooms are cozy and decorated with Tiffany style hanging lamps. There are white table clothes and napkins. They bring a relish dish and crackers. Good old stuff! The drinks are good. You can really just relax and enjoy. As for the food, I think it's very much a place where you have to get to know the menu, and what's good. They are famous for their cream of crab soup. My wife loves it. I don't. I don't think you should be able to stand a spoon in the middle of the cup and have it stand up...that's a bit thick for me. A matter of taste. The crab cakes are pretty good, certainly above average. The soft shell crabs are excellent, about as good as I have ever had. Shrimp salad is super (1 sandwich will fill 2 lite eaters)! This is generally a very enjoyable place to dine. You can dress up or go casual. Either way you will feel comfortable.

I'm not giving the Sunset five stars due to the service, but the food is good. They have two of my most favs: cream of crab soup and stuffed shrimp and i have not had better. I've had better side dishes, Sunsets are just okay. But....the cream of crab and stuffed shrimp are VERY good so I give them five stars. so go and order both and just remember the waitresses aren't always friendly and you may have to wait for a table!
(3)Jessica B.
My family and I have been coming here for years and the quality of the food has never changed! Always consistently high quality meals at an affordable price. I recently went here with my boyfriend and requested a table by the fire which is exactly what we got. i generally order the sauerbratten (sour beef) when I come here because it is simply out of this world and truly authentic. However, their menu is not limited to German food, it has a little but if everything and I find that even in large parties anyone will be able to find something they would be delighted to order. For desert they make strawberry shortcake the old fashioned way and it is simply amazing! Though the portion is enough for several people to share so you might want to share with someone at your table or be prepared to take it home with you! The old school charm and atmosphere win me over every time I come here and my only wish is that I lived much closer to it. They are currently celebrating their 50 year anniversary as I saw on a sign when I walked in last week and I can only hope that I will be around to see them celebrate 100 in another 50 years! Yes, their food is that good!

My favorite restaraunt! If you go on a Friday or Saturday night say after 5 pm the wait can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour. The food is fantastic! My favs are the cream of crab soup, stuffed shrimp baked or fried, sour beef and dumplings, shrimp salad, and well any of their seafood dishes!.The only problems are that the bathrooms only have one stall in each one and no lock for the door to keep people from comming in so you would have privacy. Not the stall room door but the bathroom door. Also the vegetables that come with your meal are rather bland so if you do get sides try their cole slaw which is sweet and creamy or their cucumber salad. The cucumber salad has onions in it with oil and vinegar.Blended nicely. The mashed potatoes are ok but if you get it make sure to ask for some gravy to go with it.The french fries taste like Wendy's fries, sea salt and all.Tasty but it's a french fry like any other french fry.The rolls are fresh and warm but not aplenty so you have to ask for some more. They are however the best damn rolls I ever had and I could simply just eat them as a meal. They also have a fully stocked bar where one can order even the most obscure drinks from such as a Tom Collins or an Old Fashion. The best mixed drinks there are the Pina Colada,,White Russian,Mud Slide, and for non alcoholic drinks there is the Shirley Temple.I always ask for my drinks to be made with Ice cream and they give you plenty of whipped cream and bitters. For desert of course the Strawberry Shortcake which can feed two people.Perfect to split with your significant other,It's the best!I have been comming here for about 30 years and not yet have I ever ate bad food here or smelled an odor of some sort or have seen food on the floor except for a pearl onion that had jumped off the relish tray.Speaking of the relish tray.it compliments well with dinner.I love the olives and the cheese and crackers. There are reasons why they have certain rooms empty and that is because they are being reserved and or it makes it easier for the staff to wait on you if everybody is not scatered.I'm not saying these bad reviews are bogus but the place has been around for over 50 years it's bounds to have some bad days.More good then bad. That is for sure.I come here at least once a month. My only real quip is the bathroom situation. Can I please"go" without someone waiting right outside the stall tapping their foot?
(5)K G.
It's ok for average prime rib.The crab cakes are decent.I like the relish tray the best,Where else can you get radishes pickles carrots and pickled onions on the same plate,Plus you get cheese and butter for your crackers. The bar caters hard to the locals,And I get funny looks from the bartenders like I'm not supposed to be there which I find hilarious.

The Sun Has Definitely Set This place was FILTHY. The first thing that hit us when we went in was the overwhelming odor of urine--it smelled like a nursing home! The floors were so dirty, french fries ground into the carpeting, trash, rolls under the table, crackers everywhere--it was just totally disgusting. But we were trying to revive good memories of delicious cream of crab soup and mountainous crab cakes. The cream of crab was still excellent, the crab cakes weren't bad, but several in our group had an upset stomach on the way home and the general lack of cleanliness is a good target to place the blame. The sad thing was there was no excuse for the place to be so bad, it was practically empty on a slow Monday evening--plenty of waitstaff and bus people around--have some of them pick up.. Even the bathrooms were gross--especially the ones up front. The owner/manager was there--he didn't seem concerned with the appearance of the place and there was a large much cleaner looking room sitting empty. It's really sad this used to be a regional institution people would come from miles away to eat at the Sunset--we traveled from Ellicott City, it's a trip we won't be making again. Some old restaurants you hate to see close, this one should shut down--and soon.

Decor: Pros: semi classic decor with a lot of seating and mirrors ... Cons: The restrooms are horrible, Is that a liqour store attached to the lobby? Giant eye sore of neon at the bar, yuck. Food: The wait for food here is awful. I waited nearly 20 minutes for salads an additional 15 minutes for entrées which were served with rolls. And this is at 430p when we started and didn't get out until 630ish. The meal I ordered came with a salad . The salad had a giant tomato which was a little awkward to eat around, so far okay not overly thrilled. I ordered a rare steak. When it arrived it was over cooked to a medium rare and was 90% fat and impossible to cut through. Maybe if it wasn't dried out, I could have tried to eat it? So after calling over the waitress she was willining to get me a new steak understanding the issue. The new steak was brought out from the kitchen raw and I was required to analyze the cut . At this point everyone with my party had ate halfway through the meal. So while I waited I ate through my cold and boring mashed potatoes. The steak arrived as my table finished their last bites. I like rare steak but to serve it tar tar?! That's fine your chef cannot cook a steak. I ate through the whole offering as my party seemed discussed and made jokes the whole time. I really wanted to get the hell out of this hell hole, but service here cannot bring a check for shit. Analysis : Food here is awful I watched as my whole party seemed to fight to eat their meals. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Excellent dining expericence. The wait staff is very warm and friendly. The food is amazing. The cream of crab soup is awesome, add a little bit of sherry and you're in heaven. The crab cakes are delicious and well seasoned. The portion sizes is very generous, I typically take half the meal home to eat at another time. Excellent value for your money.

My mom took me to the Sunset for my birthday two years ago. The hot turkey was so good, and very filling. We met a waitress there named Kim. She has to be the most upbeat friendly waitress I have ever had there. Because we had such a great experience with Kim, we request her weekly when we go back. Being a regular customer, you would think that managers would thank you, or stop to say hello. You do not get the pleasant greetings or him stopping by to see how everything was. Today was really a day where this bugged my mom and I. They also have a couple newer waitresses that look at us like we shouldn't be there. Makes us uncomfortable. My review for food is average. I have had their cream of crab soup, crabcakes and they are not the best in the area. The salads are good, and their crab dip. We started getting charged because we requested cucumbers in our salads. We will no longer get them. Most places side salads have them in there. Food is average, manager, and a couple waitresses are not pleasant at all. We are taking a break from there. It is a shame too, we could always count on a couple people in there to make us feel welcome.
(3)Jackie W.
I have eaten here hundreds of times throughout my life. It's easy, local and a good bang for your buck. While I have had just about everything on the menu I mainly stick to sandwiches these days instead of fast food because it is by far a better deal than any fast food place in the area. It's $7.95 for a bacon cheeseburger and fries but not just any burger, it's fresh and has a mountain of bacon on top. I will agree that it's not the kind of restaurant you go to if you are looking for a pretentious $18 salad or Chilean sea bass. This place isn't going to satisfy your need for Gordon Ramsay style dining but I like that it isn't necessarily trying to either. They have something for everyone, their portions are far and above what you would expect from the money and they are consistently good at many home cooked favorites. Try the house salad with their home made honey mustard. A turkey club, bacon cheeseburger, cream of shrimp soup, garlic shrimp appetizer, bahama mama chicken fingers with their seriously chunky fresh blue cheese. If you want to go big, try the prime rib, crab melts or shrimp scampi.
(4)Chris C.
I am only rating 2 due to my prior experience and the soup this go around. This time when I went for lunch it was very disappointing. The wait staff was very slow and even the table next to us asked for just a few mins and waited 10-15 to place their order after drinks. They weren't too busy but our waitress just disappeared. No water refills or anything. Also I was there with someone of Native American descent and the table who walked in as we were finishing up was talking about Indians and then the other said O, you mean Redskins...then came a comment about fire engines. I am not all that willing to return again.

So this place may be one of my favorite new places. The food is great and some dishes I would say amazing. The portion size is for a small family. This as a customer is a bonus dinner at night lunch the next day. I love that there is a bar in the front located next to its own beer wine and liquor store and then when the main dinning rooms close they have a bar in the back. It's bar hoping without much of a walk or a drive. It's a little out dated on design but who cares food is good. It's got a older and funny crowd but never a dull conversation. The ladies behind the bar work it at there own pace but always friendly and always will call you sweetie or honey... their pour is great to! Overall cheers of Glen Burnie!
(4)Patricia D.
Been going here for years. Mostly sit in back bar area. Serve is great and everyone is friendly. Front bar is a little more lit up. Great place for celebrating special occasions or just to have a few drinks and relax.
(4)Samuel R.
I have eaten there many times and have celebrated many family occasions here. The food is always great and always fresh. I get carry out every now and then. I am always very pleased.
(5)Heather W.
Exactly what Chris said! I have been coming here for family occasions for years, but not frequently. I went here on Saturday 4/30/11. I was getting a strawberry shortcake to go and a bottle of wine. I was leaning against a bar stool waiting for my order, which took forever. While waiting I noticed there were a lot of elderly people around me but even if they were all wearing depends, there is NO reason for the ridiculious smell of sitting urine! It was so pungent. In all my visits to this establishment, I've never smelled something so bad. As I mentioned earlier, I was standing, leaning against a bar stool. As I was driving, I was curious why my arm was sticky, I thought maybe my daughter (9months) spit up on me or something while I was waiting. NOT AT ALL! When I got home I went to see what it was and the entire front of my shirt where I was touching the bar stool was covered with smelly black funk and that was what was on my arm as well. Im almost tempted to call the health department. Onto the food, although the cleanliness of this place is being called into question, the strawberry shortcake, was to die for, as always. The liquor store part of this restaurant is trashy. The waitress stand out front smoking. The man behind the counter was surly and rude. The place was small and over priced.
(2)Tiffany Z.
My father in law and I both ordered soup and never received it. Waitress said she forgot because she was too busy "playing" with my 14 month old son. I'll forgive her for it since her and the rest of the staff were super good with him. I would give them another shot because the food was great. They give you a plate of olives, pickles, cheese, celery, carrots and onions to start. That's a pretty good way to win me over. My in laws got the sour beef and dumplings which was delicious and I got a bacon cheeseburger which was awesome. I've eaten a lot of burgers and this might have to be my new go to for burgers.
(3)Becky S.
Someone recommended this place to my mom. After eating there, I can only assume this person has some kind of vendetta against her. The place could have been charming with all of its wood paneling, fireplace and traditional style. But it just came off as old-fashioned and stuck in a time warp. That feeling continued to the music, the waitstaff and, most unfortunate of all, the food. The salads were big, but felt like something Denny's would have served in the 80s. I had baked stuffed jumbo shrimp. If it weren't for the tails on the shrimp, I would have sworn it was some kind of shrimp substitute. I'm reasonably sure that the gunk on top of it came from a can. Mom and I ordered green beans. What came out was a bowl full of tasteless canned mush. My dad's peas were canned, too. Mom's pork chop was dry and tasteless. Dad was the only one who actually ate his meal, but he's easy to please and it's hard to screw up fettucine alfredo. The entire ordeal took forever, and all of that wood paneling seemed to amplify the loud talking of the boors seated next to us so conversation was impossible. The pricetag was outrageous considering the poor quality of the food. Perhaps they justify the prices because the portion sizes are so large. (My dad's meal could have served a family of 6 with some left over.) But, huge piles of poo are not worth any more than small ones. Unless you're Gordon Ramsey, filming an episode of Kitchen Nightmares, avoid!

I've been eating at The Sunset for 20+ years and can honestly say that I've never had a bad meal there. The cream of crab soup is among the best I've ever tasted, and in fact probably is the best. The prime rib has never failed to impress me. The sour beef & dumplings (in my opinion one of their signature entrees) is out of this world. The Veal a la Sunset (a variation of Veal Oscar) is consistently excellent. All of the seafood dishes are very good. I've never had a bad meal at The Sunset. The service is always stellar. As soon as you're seated they start bringing complimentary plates of cheese & crackers and "relish trays" (celery, carrots, pickled onions, olives, pepperoconi peppers) to snack on while you look at the menu. The sourdough dinner rolls are always fresh and still hot when they hit the table. Did I mention that the service is stellar? I know it sounds like I work there or something, but I don't. I'm just a regular patron (have been for many years) and I absolutely love the place. I have many happy memories of family gatherings at The Sunset and I always recommend it to anyone who'll listen. I live over a half hour away now (I lived closer in my younger years) and I still drive all the way down to Glen Burnie just to eat there. I give it five stars.
(5)Mike D.
Sunset is a classic older restaurant that has stood the test of time. Everything we've had is good. The prime rib is awesome and a monster sized portion. Try the homemade strawberry short cake for dessert.
(5)Randi B.
best crab soup!!!!! still beats the ones in annapolis in my opinion!! i do miss this place and will go back soon..........they also have a bar as well (two of them). and also the best Reuben...

My uncle suggested Sunset Lounge for lunch and I'm glad he did! It's such a throw-back restaurant, but I love the un-renovated decor. And others must too, because the parking lot was full at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon. We were sat in an empty room, eventually joined by another table. Our waitress couldn't have been friendlier! She was quick, but never rushed us out. My mom and I both had the hot turkey sandwich with fries. A bit too much gravy on the fries, but everything was delicious! I liked my cucumber salad side and my mom loved her stewed tomatoes. Can't get sides like that many place anymore! My uncle's spaghetti was a huge serving, with gigantic meatballs. All three of us left with doggie bags. I can't wait to return for dinner (I hear there's a relish tray!) and try their sour beef. If you're looking for a modern (or even post 1980s place), Sunset won't be for you. But I love the look, the classic food and the friendly service.
(4)Jim C.
I have been here twice and have enjoyed it both times. Other yelpers have written about the place feeling like it is from a couple decades ago and a place your grandparents may have taken you. I cannot agree more, however it is clean and neat, just not the most modern feeling. Both times I have been alone in the area on business and have sat at the bar. Service has been solid although some of the details are missed. One odd thing I found is that a lot of the wait staff seems to sit at the high tops near the bar in between customers and banter back and forth between themselves. I'm surprised management allows it. The relish tray is a nice starter with 2 types of cheese spread, olives, pickled onions, celery, carrots and pepperocini. There is a basket of individually packaged crackers. The other night I got the prime rib and paid the extra $2 (for a total of $24) for the extra thick cut. I ordered medium rare and received an end cut without asking. The thing took up the entire plate and must have been 2.5-3" thick! I also got mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. It also came with 2 rolls. The meat was perfectly done and juicy. There wasn't a great deal of gristle as is common with prime rib. The mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans were fresh and decent sides. Now the odd part. Everything come is separate bowls. I had the plate with the prime rib, a bowl of potatoes, a bowl of gravy, a bowl of green beans, a plate of rolls, a dish of butter and a beer in front of me. The bartender was slow to clear the relish tray, the plate that had the cheese and the basket of crackers so my meal was taking up a lot of real estate. I was never offered a glass for my beer so, at least that was not taking up more room. I found the food to be very good and plentiful and brough home several "to go" containers (similar to the separate bowls." The food here is definitely not cutting edge but is solid comfort food. There is also an attached package store to take some booze home with you.

Have been coming here for years. The food is always good, the wait staff is always polite and I love the atmosphere. The menu has a little of everything but when I come here I usually get the seafood, just outstanding. But what makes this place really special is the oversized piece of strawberry shortcake. It's the best thing you will ever eat. The best part is that you don't have to eat in the restaurant you can go to the bar and get the strawberry shortcake to go.

I was at package goods 12/8/2014 at 3pm the older guy working was not at all personable or friendly go that matter not one smile or thank you. He barely spoke maybe he was having a bad day.

Overpriced, overrated, overdue for a complete makeover. I'm all for nostalgia, but this place is old in a bad way. So dark and boring, even the uniforms looked ancient. Our waitress was very kind but the food took forever (they weren't very busy). I wouldn't mind the wait if it was actually good. When 6 people rack up a $200 bill w/o alcohol, appetizers, or dessert the food should be excellent. But it wasn't. I've had better alfredo sauce from Olive Garden. This is where I ride off, AWAY from The Sunset.

I went to there for first time and was not happy at all. After waitin hr to be seated and another hr for food. We had party of 5 which of everyone ordered stuffed shrimp, shriml fettuccini and new york strip. Food was salty the steak was cold was not happy.i get the part of busy im not gettin tje part of why the food sat in heat lamp before it came out 30 mins before being served. Manager wasnt even interested in listen to what i had to say or even that i going giv him a bad review. I guess if you have tables makin over 100 bux turnaround i wouldn't care about one complaint

One of my fav places in Glen burnie. The cream of crab soup is excellent. The hot roast beef in the chicken Parma are great

Been coming here for decades. Their unremarkable looking delmonico steak sandwich is ALWAYS OUTSTANDING! Great cream of crab soup too. Always consistent. I highly recommend Sunset!!!

I'm going to have to give this place 4 stars for several reasons. One our server stayed on top of things and she was waiting on at least 6 tables with at least 3 to 4 people at a table. I was here for a financial workshop on money investing in your future. The speaker was great never a boring moment. I gained a lot of information at this Dinner Seminar and the Restaurant was A ok. The only thing is the restroom is so small. Just one stall. I thought that was odd for a restaurant but at least it was clean. The food was good. I really enjoyed the crab cakes. It had lump meat with very little filling. Started off with the Romaine Salad which was nice and fresh ended with the Cheese cake super rich and good! I highly recommend this place. I can't comment on the prices because every thing was free and included except for alcohol. You definitely can't beat that. Oh btw they appear to be generous on their serving. :)

Only time I've ever had Steak-Ums passed off as a Prime Rib Sandwich. Took 45 minutes for 2 French Dips, and a Sausage Sandwich. When Double T has fresher food than you, you've got problems! Oh, and "NO SUBSTITUTIONS!"

Nothing fresh, vegetable nor seafood. Reasonable prices and good service but sub par food. I come here because my parents loved it. Sentiment over logic

I seriously don't understand why this place does so well. Perhaps it's the port wine cheese, cream cheese and celery sticks that they put out on the table. Folks seem to go crazy for that small touch. But, it's not enough (for me) to make up for bland food and bad service. Tonight, we were a table of 12, seated on a night when several other large parties were there. I understand how being double sat with large parties can create service issues - but that doesn't excuse: servers dropping the f-bomb right behind us, at the water station; servers walking through the dining room while texting. There were many other service hiccups - but for these , I fault management for putting poorly trained servers on the floor, and then repeatedly reminding us 'she's new' - while making no attempt to jump in and help. I got the fried chicken. The portion size was large (1/2 a chicken), and the chicken itself was tasty. The green beans were bland - and were either out of a can or else frozen. No taste and bad texture - like cafeteria green beans. The baked potato was presented without any butter or sour cream, and the potato itself had no seasoning. Maybe, because they cater to an older crowd, they leave the food under seasoned. My Mom's fish sandwich was a breaded filet on a roll - no mayo, lettuce or tomato. She had to ask for that. My sister liked her scallops. My dad liked his shrimp salad sandwich. French onion soup broth was tasty - but the cheese could have been left under the broiler a bit longer.

This is the 1st review I've ever written. I came here simply to see if others had same dining experience as my family did because it's been about 8 yrs since we've dined there and it's really changed alot. The hostess was busily penciling in her book, not acknowledging we were 3 feet in front of her, going over seating with another employee. We were one of 3 diners there so not to busy to seat us then work out your book. The place smelled odd for a restaurant. Not like food, but like old musty wood and that bar smell. But the place is old so.... The waiter was nice, curteous and professional. I had the chicken chesapeake. I can't explain this. The chicken was pink. Completely pink. I had to cut into it to see if it was cooked n it was because it was dry as a bone. I don't even know how that can happen. It looked raw, but it was cooked??? My son had a filet mignon medium. It was all cut up. I didn't know what it was. It looked like beef cubes on his plate. The waiter explained it was butterflied to cut down on cooking time. Which explains the dryness. But I figured it was ordered medium so maybe their medium is really cooked thru. The butterfly cut? Good lord. Ur not supposed to cut up a good steak to hasten the cook time for crying out loud. My daughter got lasagna. She liked it. It looked delicious. My husband was happy with his prime rib but his sides were cold. Mine were too. Our bill came to 180 and to tell u the truth I felt like I through that money away. I would really love to know how u can overcook chicken and have it look raw. That was so weird.

I went on a recommendation and it was one of the worst dinners my wife and I have had since we moved to Maryland in 2009. The service was slow and the food was barely edible when we finally received it. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms appetizer and it tasted as though it was prepared well in advance and not fresh at all. My wife ordered a pork chop and I ordered Chicken Imperial. Her pork chop was virtually flavorless and my chicken imperial tasted was awful. It was way overpriced. We went on a Thursday evening and it was not very busy. A couple of the servers, including ours, were sitting in the lobby texting and talking on their phones. Considering how few people were there, it was extremely loud. I will never go back and I don't recommend anyone venture out and try this place. The decor gives the appearance that they are not sure if they want to make it fine dining or casual. It seems to be stuck in the middle and is in need of a renovation. Try at your own risk!!

This place is an old local classic. The best cream of crab soup known to man...awesome food...port wine cheese, home made blue cheese dressing, amazing steaks. I've always loved Sunset, and it hasn't changed a bit since before I was born.
